![]() We ended up zipping through the museum in about an hour and then went on our way. While the museum is surprisingly well designed and interesting, they initially alloted 1.5 hours at the museum, which we balked at. First stop of our particular tour: Hall of Opium. ![]() There happened to be 8 of us so we basically took up the entire shuttle van and had a private tour. Like others have mentioned, a large portion of the 4-5 hours was spent in the shuttle bus driving up and back from the Golden Triangle area. ![]() Even there, they had numerous half-day and full-day tours. We did one that was offered through Le Meridian, where we stayed. So with that caveat, I'd say if you're staying more than 2 nights in Chiang Rai, it's probably worth doing a tour of the Golden Triangle. There are a few temples scattered about but generally the attraction of the city is that it's a jumping off point to nearby areas, including the Golden Triangle and visiting the hill tribes. The way I see it, Chiang Rai isn't the most attractive town in Thailand.
